Every man dies. Not every man really lives.
Like most people in the United States, I grew up with certain societal expectations programmed into me via parenting, schooling, peer groups, media and general environment. Do well in school, go to college, have a career, get married, have a family, work hard for 40+ years, retire, live your “golden years” in relative comfort and ease…and this will bring you comfort, happiness and peace. The problem is that most of those things never appealed to me. But I still spent the first 40 years of my life trying to do the things that were supposed to make me happy and failing miserably at them. Or worse, succeeding at “doing” them and being applauded for my “success” while feeling like unfulfilled crap on the inside.
A very tumultuous phase of life led me to say Screw That! and I have since been working to self-define, self-love and self-actualize. A big part of self-actualizing is to embrace the giant part of me that has always wanted to travel, explore, go on adventures, face fear, feel exhilaration, and embrace freedom. Toward that end, I’ve determined to have a Fully Lived Life, to live a FUCK YEAH life.
We so often squelch our hopes, desires, dreams and the things that for all their potential downsides, make us feel the most alive. My hope is that in following this blog you’ll see examples of how Ruben and I walk out OUR version of a Fully Lived Life and draw inspiration to find and fully embrace your own.
Your participation and comments help further this goal by creating a community of seekers, each example of going for the FUCK YEAH further encouraging others to live out their version of a Fully Lived Life.
PS: A lovely clip that expresses this sentiment so well…Prince EA YouTube
PPS: If English isn’t your first language (I meet a lot of awesome fellow travelers from around the globe😍 and hopefully, they tell all their friends to follow *hint hint*), just switch the handy-dandy Google Translate widget in the right hand column to your preferred language and POOF the whole site changes to Swahili… or Finnish… or whatever you need!😘
